My disordered eating has gotten triggered for the first time in a very long time due to the obsession with Diet Culture in Discord. How do you guys handle things like this? Do you avoid social media where there’s Diet Culture or do you just deal with it?

I am not a social media person. (I call it so-shall media!) I don't so much avoid it as just don't find it useful or helpful in my life. I also am much more attuned to Diet Culture and am able to see it for what it is - an attempt to take something from me, not provide (to) me what I want or need. (Diet culture and social media have no respect for me so why should I have any for those???)

It is very easy to go down rabbit holes with social media, but this journey is between me and me, possibly my wife and a few very close friends. The social media landscape is filled with land mines, so I mark those posts with an "X" (unfollow/hide) and move on. I have chosen a path that others may not take and I am good with that, if they choose to walk with me then that may be a gift but I am able to walk alone!

I soon learned that the IE journey is a 'solo' path that one does by and for one's self. Yes, you interact with others along the way, but each person is doing what is best for their own dear body.

Once the irony of how Diet Culture makes use of social pressure to get its way, it then didn't surprise me that my IE efforts would have to ignore social pressure as much as possible to reclaim my eating birth right.

Good awareness Roger! and best wishes for your IE journey.
