Alissa Lupu, RD is a New York-based registered dietitian. She studied nutrition at Cornell University and completed a dietetic internship at NY-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Following the internship, Alissa was a nutrition fellow in outpatient oncology and then a staff dietitian. While at NYP, Alissa worked as the dietitian for the Center for Advanced Digestive Care. In this role, Alissa provided nutrition counseling for patients referred by the group’s gastroenterologists, oncologists, and surgeons. Alissa also regularly attended tumor board and various care coordination meetings. This time at the CADC gave Alissa expertise in nutrition therapy for a wide variety of digestive diseases. Alissa’s specialty includes treatment for: IBS, Celiac Disease, inflammatory bowel diseases, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, and cancers of the digestive tract. As a dietitian, I prescribe certain diets with a goal of treating specific symptoms and conditions. If a serving size is listed in a meal plan, it is because it is necessary to limit an ingredient to improve a patient’s gastrointestinal symptoms. I counsel patients based on an intuitive eating approach. A meal plan should not be seen as a guideline for how much food to eat in a day. Meal plans are meant to make it easier to follow a recommended medical diet.
