Hi! I found intuitive eating through my own RecoverED journey. I believe in RecoverED. Period. This life can and will exist for you. I hope to be a small part of that journey with you! Amy Helms, LMWS, MS, CEDRD-S, RD, LD, CLT is the founder of New Hope Counseling and Wellness Center, LLC. She is an experienced dietitian and believes in the power of human connection and self-compassion to foster growth and powerful transformation. Amy has dedicated her career to counseling, supervising, and teaching in the field of nutrition, body image, intuitive eating, eating disorders, and food allergies. She believes in combining an individualized approach for each client with the latest evidenced based techniques as this is most associated with lasting change. She practices within the Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size® principles. She is an approved supervisor through IAEDP an certified eating disorder specialist. She is a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor and Certfied Leap Therapist. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition Science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and her Master's Degree in Clinical Nutrition from Rush University in Chicago, Illinois. She will soon add Masters of Social Work to her skillset. This not only enhances her nutrition counseling skills but will enable her to provide psychotherapy to patients at New Hope Counseling and Wellness Center, LLC. She gained extensive clinical and supervisory experience working at academic medical centers, eating disorder treatment programs, serving as a school nutrition director, and serving as a preceptor for aspiring dietitians, physicians, and nurses. Amy has been invited to and given several presentations to a variety of professional organizations including the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Neurology Association, the Association of Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition, Georgia Psychology Association, Licensed Professional Counselors of Georgia, National Association of Social Workers, and the National Eating Disorders Association. She has been the featured speaker at multiple National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA) Walks. Amy understands the importance of continuing education and being current on the latest evidenced based treatments. She does this through memberships in professional organizations including the National Social Work Association, SC Chapter National Association Social Workers, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Sports Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutrition (SCAN), Nutrition Entrepreneurs (NE), and Academy of Eating Disorders (AED), International Association Eating Disorder Professionals, International Federation Eating Disorder Professionals, and Eating Disorder Pro. Additionally, she serves as an advocate for Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands. When she is not in the office, you will find her spending time with her two children, Laura Grace and Joshua at the park. Her favorite ways to practice self-care are playing tennis with her USTA league team or just hitting the ball around, journaling, and going for walks.
